What is Veterinary Ophthalmology?
Veterinary ophthalmology is the branch of veterinary medicine dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye diseases in animals. Veterinary ophthalmologists are specialists who use advanced diagnostic tools and surgical techniques to preserve and restore vision.
Common Eye Conditions & Treatments in Veterinary Ophthalmology:
- Corneal Ulcers & Injuries – Treating abrasions, ulcers, or infections of the cornea.
- Glaucoma Management – Monitoring and managing increased eye pressure to prevent vision loss.
- Eyelid & Tear Duct Disorders – Correcting abnormalities like entropion, ectropion, or tear duct blockages.
- Retinal Diseases & Vision Testing – Identifying conditions that affect the retina and overall eyesight.
- Medical & Surgical Eye Care – Providing both medication-based and surgical solutions tailored to each patient.
Our ophthalmology team works closely with pet owners to create individualized care plans focused on improving vision, comfort, and quality of life for every patient we see.

What to Expect During Your Pet’s Ophthalmology Appointment
At GQ Vet, we follow a thoughtful step-by-step process to ensure the best care for our ophthalmology patients. Here’s what you can expect during your visit:
1. Check-In:
Our Ophthalmology Technician will greet you and your pet in the lobby before getting you settled in an exam room. They’ll take a detailed medical and ocular history to better understand your pet’s vision and overall health. Your pet will then be brought to our treatment area for a quick check of their vitals — including weight, temperature, heart rate, and respiration rate.
2. Exam & Treatment Plan:
Dr. Hille will perform a thorough examination, review his findings, collaborate with Dr. Reed, and discuss your pet’s history and symptoms with you. He’ll answer any questions you may have and explain recommended diagnostic tests or treatment options with care and clarity. If additional diagnostics or procedures are needed, he’ll provide a detailed treatment plan beforehand — and, in many cases, can perform these the same day to ensure your pet gets timely care.
3. Medical Records & Follow-Up:
After the consultation, the doctor will finalize your pet’s medical records and email them to you and your primary veterinarian.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us — our team is here to help every step of the way!
