What is Veterinary Oncology?
Veterinary oncology is the branch of veterinary medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cancer in animals. Veterinary oncologists are specialists who use advanced diagnostic tools and treatment options to help pets with cancer. Common Cancer Treatments in Veterinary Oncology:
- Chemotherapy – Using medications to target cancer cells.
- Surgery – Removing tumors when possible, working alongside our Board Certified Surgeons.
- Radiation Therapy – Using high-energy radiation to shrink or destroy tumors.
- Electrochemotherapy – Enhancing chemotherapy with electrical pulses for better absorption.
- Immunotherapy & Targeted Therapy – Boosting the immune system or attacking specific cancer cells
Veterinary oncologists work closely with pet owners to develop personalized treatment plans aimed at improving an animal’s quality of life and, when possible, achieving remission.

What to expect the day of your pet’s Oncology consultation
Our Oncology appointments are scheduled Monday-Thursday from 7:00am-4:00pm.
At GQ Vet, we follow a thoughtful step-by-step process to ensure the best care for our Oncology patients. Here’s what you can expect during your pet’s appointment:
- Check-In: Our Oncology Technician will greet you and your pet in the lobby before getting you comfortable in an exam room. The Technician will take a detailed medical history to better understand your pet’s health. Your pet will then be brought to our treatment area for a quick check of their vitals, including weight, temperature, heart rate, and respiration rate.
- Exam & Treatment Plan: Dr. Hille will perform a thorough nose-to-tail examination of your pet. He will then review his findings and discuss your pet’s medical history with you. Dr. Hille will answer any questions you have and go over recommended treatment options with care and compassion. If additional diagnostics or treatments are needed, we’ll provide a detailed treatment plan beforehand, ensuring you feel informed and comfortable. In most cases, we can perform these the same day, so your pet gets the care they need as soon as possible.
- Medical Records & Follow-Up: Once the consultation is complete, Dr. Hille will finalize your pet’s medical records and email them to you and your primary veterinarian.
